Flood Water During floods, it will be advisable to halt operation for this device, too, since one would not wish to design the stability for higher loads than only occur occasionally. For this purpose, and for load shedding, the Wing can be brought to a position from which oscillation will not start up on its own; the current merely flows past in this case. For sites at which outage times due to floods are not negligible, the question presents itself differently. Since generation by a turbine is usually halted because the rise of the tailwater reduces the head, but this does not apply to the Transverpello, such outage times can be avoided with it. For the other reason for stopping output from a turbine, the increased occurrence of floating debris during floods, hardly hinders its operation, either. Lutz Kroeber 2008 |
